Escuela Cordillera Escalera

Our local learning center, or “escuelita” as is known by the community, provides access to education that inspires learners to dream of a different future as a pathway out of the rural poverty cycle and towards a right livelihood. It’s name honors our bioregion, as we are surrounded by Peru’s first Regional Area of Conservation: Cordillera Escalera.

Here the waters are born and travel downstream, all the way to the Amazon River.

Scaling Deep

In 2020 we began to work with the local children. Since, we’ve worked with over 70 children and youth, where most have attended more than one program. Working with the same individuals over time is one way to deepen our impact and increase the possibilities of lasting transformations. Our participatory approach ensures that the voices of the parents and learners are heard so that our programs meet the community’s needs, interests and wishes.

OUR PROGRAMS - LOCAL COMMUNITY

We tend to the development of socioemotional skills. With an approach that fosters creativity, play, imagination and critical thinking, we teach and facilitate learning through 4 core subjects: art, english, music and science.

English

A young girl with long dark hair, wearing a red t-shirt, blue jeans, and pink shoes, crouches in a shallow river surrounded by rocks and greenery. She has a blue bow in her hair and is smiling at the camera, with small stacked rocks arranged in towers in front of her.
